The Care Certificate

A SWOT Analysis is probably the most commonly known and quite a few traditionally used planning tool in social care services. It can be worth revisiting the basic principles however.
SWOT means Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats, and is particularly useful when you are generating ideas and difficulty with a group of people. A big square is drafted and divided into four sections each with one of the SWOT headings.
The questions below are useful prompts for discussion, with out judgements needs to be made in regards to the issues identified, however unorthodox. Once ideas happen to be exhausted and entries made under each section, discussion might be encouraged about which factors are most critical, just what the priorities are, and just how challenges may be overcome
Strengths
What advantages does your organisation have?
What do you do better than someone else?
What resources are there entry to?
What do people see since your strengths?
What factors imply you deliver services effectively?

Weaknesses
What would you improve?
What when you avoid?
What are people planning to see as weaknesses?
What factors limit your skill to deliver services?
Opportunities
Where include the good opportunities facing you?
What will be the interesting trends you are aware of?
What benefits exist for service users?
Threats
What obstacles do you face?
What is going on locally that you ought to be worried about?
Are what's needed for the job or services changing?
Is changing policy threatening your role?
Could any of your weaknesses seriously threaten any project?
The goal of a SWOT analysis would be to draw out all the issues, assumptions, hopes and fears that differing people have in the safe, non-judgmental way.
All of us work on the cornerstone of assumptions, hopefully informed ones, but there's always the possibility of confusing assumptions with facts. If you can be clear as to what will be the facts along with what would be the assumptions at the outset of a task, this will help you manage risk and modify more constructively down the road. By bringing these out in the open through a SWOT analysis and reaching agreement on shared assumptions, you have the cause for a successful project plan.
